Work on the simulations behind Team Bath Rocket’s rocket engine, modelling complex propulsion systems and helping inform design decisions.
The role will involve:
- Thermodynamic and engine simulation;
- Modelling real and supercritical gases;
- Reaction and combustion modelling;
- Validating simulations against test data and component CFD;
- Modelling rocket injection characteristics;
- Working alongside the Propulsion Team on testing and engine development;
- Validating simulation through real-life testing.
Work will generally be completed on MATLAB and Simulink, with some potential for applying Python.
Relevant Skills
Required:
- Understanding of basic simulation techniques;
- Basic MATLAB and Simulink understanding.
Beneficial
- Knowledge of Python
- Experience with thermodynamic simulation
- Understanding of real-gas and supercritical-fluid behaviour
- CFD knowledge
This year, we’ll be building on an existing model, with a focus on improving accuracy, validating against experimental data, and adapting the model for new engine designs.
